Sgt. Aubrey D. Bell was a father figure to his longtime girlfriend's four children, and talked with her about them when he called home the day before he died."They're trying to hold on. It's hard," Philandria Ezell said of the children.Bell, 33, of Tuskegee, Ala., was killed Oct. 27, 2003, when his unit came under small-arms fire at a police station in Baghdad.One of three brothers, Bell worked at Russell Corp. in Montgomery, Ala. He was a veteran of the first Gulf War and had been in the National Guard about 14 years.
