He worked as a dispatcher at the Missouri Utilities Co,1948 - 1974. He was also a bricklayer. He served in the US Army during World War II.
He won the Purple Heart during World War II, 4 battle ribbons & several other medals. He served in the South Pacific & was wounded during the liberation of Manila, Philippines. A grenade was dropped into his foxhole & exploded. Shrapnel was from the grenade was lodged in his leg. He & Evelyn had 2 children: John Reed Hinkle & William Joseph Hinkle. William Joseph Hinkle died as an infant relating to RH factor blood complications.
