Haywood Carroll Morris, known to his family as Pop, died February 16, 2004 in Chesapeake. A native of Pasquotank County, NC, he was the youngest child of the late George M. and Sarah Cartwright Morris and the husband of the late Elsie Odell Byrd Morris. An Army veteran of World War II, he served primarily in New Guinea, and he (along with the rest of his company) received a Bronze Star. He was a retired machinist with Associated Naval Architects, Inc. He had two stepdaughters, Ruth, who passed away in July 1999, and Jenette, my mom; he also had a child, Patricia Jean, who passed away in 1943 at the age of only two weeks from a respiratory illness while he was serving in WWII. I love Pop and miss him a lot.
