Chief William ANDERSON was the son of John ANDERSON, Swedish (Scottish?), and mother, who was the daughter of Delaware Chief Netewatwees. Chief William ANDERSON was the Chief of the Delaware Tribe, Turkey Clan in March of 1806 after Tribal Chief Tetepachsit. He and his first wife, name unknown, had at least sons Anderson SARCOXIE (b.1784), James SWANNUCK and Pushkies ANDERSON.
William was married a second time to Ahkechlungunagua, English name was Mary KETCHUM, who died in June 1805. Mary brought in children from her previous marriage, three sons and a daughter. Together they had two sons, Wachingwe Pooshies ANDERSON (d.1832), Se-So-Cum and a daughter, Mekinges (b.1789, mar.. William CONNOR). Historians argue which children were biological or adopted.
Son, Sarcoxie, went by the name of "Anderson SARCOXIE" who had a son named, Big John SARCOXIE and another son named William Henry ANDERSON.
Chief ANDERSON was very influential in signing of many famous treaties with the US and was well respected in warfare. Many books and articles have been written on him. Anderson, Indiana was named after him.
Chief ANDERSON died at his home on the Delaware reserve, present Wyandotte County, Kansas. His death occurred after Sept 22nd, on which he dated a letter in which he mentioned his four sons: Captains SHOUNAKC (SHAWANOCK), PUSHKIES, SECONDYAN (Second-Line) and SACACOXY (SARCOXIE). At a later time "SECONDLINE" was the name of a Wyandotte County Post Office (1856-1859) and "SARCOXIE" was the name of a Jefferson County Post Office (1889-1901).
