Norma Jeane Lynam Adams died peacefully in her home at the age of 71 of a heart condition. Norma was born December 13, 1941 in Shawnee, OK the daughter of Carl and Irene (Shackleford) Lynam. She was reared in Shawnee where she graduated from Shawnee High School in 1959. Norma joined the Oklahoma City Police Department in 1972 where she was honored to be one of the first five women hired by the police department for patrol duty. She retired in 1996 after 24 years on the force. Norma had a zest for life enjoying golf, tennis, skiing, boating, fishing, camping, cookouts, traveling, china painting and any activity that included children. She was truly a child's best friend! She was a unique, talented individual who was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Howard; her daughter, Cristi Bowerman of Oklahoma City; son, Carl and wife Melissa Bowerman of Yukon; her grandsons, Seth and Brett Bowerman; her sisters, Margie and Wynona; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her family also includes many others that call her "Grannie" a name she loved to hear. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Irene Lynam; her sisters, Charlene and Jo and her husband Fred. The family received friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20th in the Vondel Smith Mortuary North Colonial Chapel, 13125 N. MacArthur. Interment followed in the Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
