"Bonnie and Clyde" raided the Eastham Prison Camp on January 16, 1934 liberating Joe Palmer and other prisoners from the prison camp. In the escape a prison guard was killed and Palmer was charged and later convicted of the murder. He would be executed for the crime. Palmer was reportedly very well liked by his fellow inmates who pitched in funds to have Palmer buried in San Antonio, Texas instead of the prison cemetery.
