Upon arriving in Vietnam 27 March 1967, Raymond was assigned to a Recon Platoon, E Company, 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, USARV. Raymond was walking point when they were engaged by hostile forces while participating in Operation Kien Giang. Raymond died as a
result of hostile gunshot wounds to the body.
