My Grandma; mother of my biological father, John Robert Pace.

Daughter of Willis Edwin Brown (1867-1950) & Mabel Edna Gardner (1876-1974); granddaughter of Edwin M. & Eltana Ruth (Merwin) Brown and Edward & Emma (Reynolds) Gardner. Sibling:
Rolly Edward Johnson (1900-1951)
Eltana Mabel (1903-1994)
Effie Rachel (1912-1983)
George Ernest (1913-2004)
Twin, Dorothy & Ruth (1919-1919)

Married Henry Lewis Pace, December 22, 1928 in Norwalk, Los Angeles Co., CA. Four sons:

John Robert Brown, adopted by Henry and name changed to Pace.
William Lewis Pace
Sylvanus Hubert "Sy" Pace
Sylvester Elbert "Sid" Pace

Although we didn't have much connection with our birth father, we kept in touch with Grandma & Grandpa Pace, even spending a summer on their farm in Eugene when I was in 5th grade. I learned to care for farm animals and tried to ride a steer (to Grandma's horror); had my first taste of rhubarb and have made rhubarb pie ever since.

When our daughter was little, Grandma, Aunt Effie and Aunt Tane traveled to Michigan for a long visit. They made the children stuffed toys and tried to teach me to crochet but I failed miserably. We had some good times as each of these wonderful ladies knew how to laugh and carry on like schoolchildren.

Dear Arleta,
Am writing in regards to your Grandmother Pace. She passed away Feb 26th. The cause of death was a Heart Attack.
The one thing we can all be thankful for was that she did not suffer. We believe Sid did enough for the two of them.
The Dr. said that she had a very bad heart, and that she was going to have to take it easy, but you know your Grandmother. You could not keep her down.
She was put in the hospital around 11:00 am Sat the 26th. At 3:00 pm in the afternoon, she was sitting up in bed talking to your dad and Sy, and at 5:37 pm she passed away.
The Seventh - Day Adventist Church services were beautiful. The ladies of the church held a very nice dinner for the family following the services.
Well Dear, this is about all we can tell you. We do have the peace of mind that she is in the keeping of the Good Lord, as we're sure you do too.
...Love, /s/ Dad & Colleen
