My 6th great-grandfather and grandson of Godfrey I and Mary Ragsdale.

Benjamin married Martha Jones about 1723; twelve known children:
1. Daniel (my ancestor)
2. Rachail (m Mark Moore)
3. Peter, Sgt (m Sarah Charlton)
4. John S. (m Frances ?)
5. Richard
6. Benjamin, Jr. (m Susannah Price)
7. Winfred (m Michael Johnson)
8. William, Sr. (m Ann Parker & Mary Daniel)
9. Mary (m Augustine Rowland)
10. Jesse (m Margaret Glenn)
11. Thomas (m Mary Comer)
12. Godfrey (m Judith Ligon)

Ever wonder where all the different spellings of Ragsdale came from? Just a partial listing of what I found:
Bristol Parish Register has Benjamin Ragsdale's name spelled:
Benj & Martha Radgsdale 1724 (Dan's birth)
Benj & Martha Ragsdail 1726 (Rachail's birth), 1728 (John's birth)
Benj & Martha Ragsdale 1731 (Winfred's birth)
Benjamine & Martha Ragsdail 1734 (Benjamine's birth)
Now you know.

More than likely Benjamin and Martha were of the Methodist persuasion as daughter Rachael married Rev Mark Moore, a Methodist preacher and son Peter, named a son for the famous Methodist Bishop, Francis Asbury. Other sons remained with the Church of England as proved by vestries of St. James Parish and Cumberland Parish.

Note: Please also leave flowers for wife as she has so few. Thank you!
