Mother was born February 11, 1935 to Clarence Lee Nelson and Effie Ethel Heady Nelson in the now historical J.J. McAlister mansion, McAlister, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma.
Her brothers and sisters were Gordon Lee Nelson, Billy Andrew Nelson, Norma Faye Nelson Ashley,Hazel Ruth Nelson Davis, Joe "Little Brother" Evert Nelson, Anita "Frankie" Francis Nelson Webster, and Charles "Bud" H. Nelson.
Mother married my Daddy, Albert Standley Thomas, January 9, 1950 in Coolidge, Arizona. Mother and Daddy lived in the Houston, Texas and Boswell, Oklahoma area. However, most of their married lives they lived and raised their children in Hood County Texas; specifically, (since 1955) in Cresson, and the Acton/Fall Creek area.
Mother and Daddy had 5 children and 3 sons-in-love and one daughter-in-love: Carolyn Sue Thomas and husband Donny Sorensen; Sandra Gail Thomas and husband Robert Hudson; Janice Marie Thomas Misner; Stanley Eugene Thomas and wife Terry; Wynona Diane Thomas and husband Gary Swaim.
We gave them 15 Grandchildren: Ann Marie Grissom Dragoo, Geneveive Lynn Grissom Wilson, Robert Nathan Grissom; Brandi Lin Hudson Ridley, Brandon (Bo) Odell Hudson; James Albert Wann, Christopher Matthew Misner, Shahara Marie Misner Fowler, Lance Jacob Misner; Misty Michelle Thomas Matcham, Heather Renee Thomas Hutsell, Christy Beth Thomas, Victoria Lynn Thomas; Eric Thomas Swaim and Carey Don Swaim.

Mother was the most wonderful cook ever! She loved reading her Bible, needle work and ceramics. But her greatest passion was her research into our family genealogy and researching her Cherokee Indian ancestry.

A Legacy
You've passed a special torch to your children,
A light of the Lord not of men,
A torch of faithfulness, hope and love,
A precious gift from our God above.
You've passed a passion to trust our Savior,
He is in control despite our behavior.
You've shown that His faithfulness never changes.
He is the same through all the ages.
You've passed knowledge of God's word,
And taught us that it's truth is our Sword.
You've taught us to listen to His sweet, sweet spirit,
And recognize His voice when we hear it.
