Son of the late Clarence Everett and Marie Maggie Hunter Arkward. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Clarence Arkward; John Arkward; and Matilda McQuaige.

Ben leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 46 years, Theresa Arkward; two children, Benjamin Arkward Jr. and Jessica Garland; one son-in-law, a mother-in-law, two grandchildren, siblings, Mary Johnson; Barbara Nelson; Elizabeth Newton, Richard Arkward; four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and a host of other family and friends.

Ben attended the public school systems of Albemarle County Virginia and graduated from St. Emma Military Academy in Powhatan VA. He also attended various colleges and took classes before entering the United States Army, fighting in the Vietnam War. He was employed by the Fluvanna County Sheriff's department for many years until his retirement.

Ben was a free spirited person who loved life and always loved to help and encourage others. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed always.

A Graveside Memorial Service was held Saturday, at the Arkward Family Cemetery, Arkquaige Lane in Troy, VA. with Reverend Philip A. Carter officiating.
