A time to be born: Jean Abbott of Charlottesville was born on June 21, 1928 in Fremont, Ohio.
A time to serve: Grandma Jean enjoyed many wonderful work experiences at The Hampton Inn, Greencroft Country Club, The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Virginia, the Holiday Inn, the Ivy Inn, and Grandma Jean's Ice Cream Store. She was an active and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, a counselor for the local chapter of Compassionate Friends, and a former state and local president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
A time to love: Grandma Jean leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Lynn Davis, Susan Neuhauser, Marty Whitlow; and one son, Bill Abbott; eight grandchildren, Jason Abbott, Jodi and Whitney Neuhauser, Kyle and Kara Whit1ow, Tim and Cassidy Abbott and Raleigh Davis; one great-granddaughter Regan Abbott; three sons-in-law, Myron Neuhauser, John Whitlow, and Randolph Davis; special friends Terry and Dennis Creamer, Patrick Sears and countless wonderful friends and fellow Wahoo fans. She loved working in her yard, baking cookies, spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors, giving back to the community, and attending and watching local UVA and high school athletic events.
A time to die: Our beloved Grandma Jean began her journey of eternal life on November 25, 2007 at her home in Charlottesville surrounded by the love and comfort of family. Waiting for her with open arms are her beloved sons, Jim and Tim. Jean was also preceded in death by her father, William F. Longanbach; mother, Florence Bertha Longanbach; brother, Howard Longanbach; and sisters, Mabel Longanbach and Mildred Lerch.
The family expresses their profound appreciation to the Emergency Room staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital, especially Dr. Sutherland, the staff of 3 West at the University of Virginia and the Palliative Care team, especially Dr. Seki A. Balogun. They also thank all the staff of the Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care, concern and support.
The family received friends, Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
A graveside service was held at Monticello Memory Gardens followed by a Celebration of Life at the First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville. A reception followed in the church fellowship hall.
