Ethel J. Botts, 99, of Red Oak, IA, formerly of the Elliott and Grant vicinities, died early Monday morning, January 5, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak.

Ethel Josephine Curry was born on June 18, 1909 at rural Grant, IA, the daughter of William Riley and Carrie D. (Embree) Curry. She attended schools at Grant and on June 4, 1927, married Blair Lyman Botts at Corning, IA. They lived and farmed 51 years near Elliott where they raised six children and one granddaughter. Following Blair's death on November 30, 1978, Ethel moved to Grant where she lived until the last 3 ½ months.

Ethel was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Gold Star Mothers.

Preceding Ethel in death were her parents; her husband; two sons, Lyman Eugene in 1986 and Sidney Jasper killed in Korea in 1952; one son-in-law William Miller; two grandsons, William Miller Jr. and Michael Hinemeyer; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Lloyd and Edwin Curry and three sisters, Estella Foote, Nellie Hendrickson and Mary Wycoff.

Survivors include three daughters, Mildred Miller of Atlantic, IA, Helen (Gene) Hinemeyer of Overland Park, KS, and Betty (Robert) Streit of Spring Valley, MN; one son, Randall (Sue) Botts of Glenwood, IA; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and the granddaughter whom they raised, Colleen (Robert) Greenfield of Stanton, IA.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott.
