Eugene Charles "Gene" Marbeiter, age 54, of Dunedin, Florida, died Monday (April 24, 2006) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and came to Dunedin in 1994 from Jacksonville.
Gene was a career Navy man, retired having spent time in both the Vietnam and Gulf wars. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the Florida State Department of Education. In addition he was a licensed minister for over 25 years, and was a member of Everlasting Bread of Life Church and Chapter 11 DAV, both of Clearwater.
Gene leaves his wife of 34 years, Georgeine; twin sons: Kevin Gene of Dunedin, and Keith Allan of Clearwater; a daughter, Tanya Renee Marbeiter of Dunedin; his father, Richard, of Freesoil, Michigan; three sisters: Joann Douglas of Ludington, Michigan, Sylvia Bottje of Freesoil, and Carolyn Avery of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and one very loved granddaughter.
Gene died of a type of cancer most likely resulting from repeated exposure to Agent Orange as he serviced the jets on the aircraft carrier on which he served in Vietnam. He was buried with full military honors in a private ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
