Adario was shown as residing in Middlesex Co., MA, when he enlisted in the National Guard (Coast Artillery Corps) at Boston, MA., on Sept. 16, 1940 ...His marital status was 'single' and his education was 'grammar schooling'. He was 5 ft. 7 in. tall and weighed 169 lbs. His serial number was 20120720. His pre-war occupation code was not shown. He was assigned to the 455th AAA Bn., after the unit was formed in Sept. 1942..The 455th AAA trained at Camp Stewart and Ft. Benning, Ga., then went overseas to Norfolk, England (in Sept. 1943). Ernest was in Battery 'C', gun crew #1, as an 'ammunition' crewman on a gun crew #1 antiaircraft gun. His rank was Pvt...Ernest's unit was located at a B-24 bomber repair airbase at Watton, Norfolk, England.
Earnest was not shown on the group photo of Btry. 'C', taken at Kettering, England, in Sept. 1943, shortly after the unit arrived there. There is no other photo of him that has come to light. It is known from records that he was in the 471st AAA Bn., Battery 'A', at Clark Airfield, Luzon, Phillipine Islands in March 1945, when he was killed by a fellow soldier. When he had transferred to that unit is not known.
What is known is that on the night of March 26, 1945, "he received severe injuries when he was struck by a bullet fired by a person or persons unknown while threatening the lives of his fellow soldiers and after having fired one shot at a non-commissioned officer. (He) was removed by ambulance to an Army hospital...but death occurred on 28 March, 1945, as a result of his injuries...the identity of the assailant remains unknown..."
He is shown on a 'Gold Star Family Registry' and the Middlesex County, MA, War Memorial list of casualties. His record indicated that he had received a Good Conduct Medal.
