Mac E. Albert was born on a farm on August 27, 1917 in Trout Run, Pennsylvania, to Link and Violet Albert. He was one of eight children with his three brothers; Charles Eldon, Larue Fleming, and Hale Link, and four sisters; Lilly Iona, Nellie Rose-Anna, Dorothy Ann, and Martha Violet. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and joined the 82nd Airborne Div. - 307th Airborne Engineers Co. C - Paratrooper Unit 101. He was killed in action on May 1, 1945 along the German front just four days before Germany surrendered bring to an end the the European portion of the war on May 5, 1945. Army medical records state that he was hit by a land mine. His division saw heavy action in Italy, France, Holland, and Germany.
