Pearl, better known as "Duchess", was a lover of life, freedom, and children. She had her own daycare, simply named "Duchess' Day Care". She was a member of New Macedonia FWB Church, and dedicated her life to the Lord. She was the wife of William Bates, Sr..

Mrs. Pearl Dolores Bates, 59, of 4727 Pamlico Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Services: Funeral, noon Monday in New Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church. Burial in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Viewing: 1 to 8 p.m. today at Cunningham & Sons Mortuary.

Visitation: 6 to 7 tonight at the mortuary.

Survived by: Daughters, Rhonda Washington, Lisa and Colleon; sons, Michael, William and Kyei; stepdaughter, Debbie; sisters, Jessie Burroughs and Ove Blume; brothers, John Mackey, Pede Mackey and Richard Mackey; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
