Broadway Choreographer, Director, Producer, Performer. Born Michael Bennett DiFiglia, he joined a touring production of "West Side Story" at the age of sixteen. The director and choreographer of the Broadway hits "Dreamgirls" and "Follies", he is best known for using his experiences as a Broadway dancer to conceive, choreograph, and direct the iconic "A Chorus Line" which won nine Tony Awards in 1976. Running on Broaway for 6,137 performances, "A Chorus Line" also won Bennett the Pulitzer Prize for drama. Bennett succumbed to AIDS, leaving a vast amount of his estate to research the disease.
