A native of Kentucky, he located in Oregon in 1854. He came to California in 1859 and lived in Suisun, Solano County where he farmed. He married Pauline Flournoy and had at least four daughters: Elizabeth (born abt 1850), Nancy (born abt 1857), Frances (born abt 1858), and Mellissa (born abt 1862).
Family members have informed me that Ambrose & Pauline Newton had two additional daughters: Martha A. Newton, b. abt 1848; married John Darby in 1868, widowed at a young age; and Angeline Newton, b. abt 1851; married George A. Graham in 1868 (one week after her sister's wedding); d. August 28, 1932
Ambrose Newton's parents were both born in South Carolina.
