Pfc. Frank Leroy Barbee, of CO C 26MAR 9MAB, 20, was looking forward to Monday.
That was the day he was scheduled to depart from South Vietnam for the Phillippines on what he had written his family was "good duty."
Pfc. Barbee was killed in action Sunday.
He had told his family he would be in and out of Vietnam in his assignment. Barbee had scarcely been battle-tested, leaving for overseas duty July 9. He had been in the Marine Corps since last November and in Vietnam just 13 days.
Born in Saluda, N.C., he moved to Lockhart at an early age and spent most of his life there, he lived on River Street, attending Lockhart Public Schools. He attended Bullock creek Presbyterian Church.
He was a son of Mary Azalee Gibson Ashe and the late Loomis F. Barbee.
He was survived by his step-farther, Clyde Ashe; four sisters: Mrs Paul (Tootsie) Yon of Columbia, S.C., Carolyn Barbee, Donna Sue Ashe and Karen Ashe, all of Lockhart; his maternal grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Roy Gibson of Sharon; and his paternal grandmother Mrs. James P. Barbee, Stanfield, N.C.

Frank is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington DC. Name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 10e, Line 55.
