Major League Baseball Player. A power hitting first baseman, he began his Major League Baseball Career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1961. He remained with the Pirates through the end of the 1968 season, and began the 1969 season with the Montreal Expos, but after just 38-games he was traded to the New York Mets. It was with the Mets that he enjoyed the highlight of his career. As a member of the 1969 "Miracle Mets", he helped them win the World Series in five games over the Baltimore Orioles. During the World Series he had three home runs and four RBI's and was name the World Series Most Valuable Player. He finished his Major League career in 1972 with the St. Louis Cardinals, enjoying a .274 career batting average, 159-home runs, and 682 – RBI's. Following his retirement from baseball, he earned his law degree and worked as a lawyer in Washington, D.C. and Chicago before retiring to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
