Major League Baseball Player. Played Major League Baseball as an outfielder for 4 seasons (1975 to 1978) before having his life tragically cut short. A product of a baseball family (his father, Lyman Bostock Sr., played in the Negro Leagues from 1940 to 1949), he hit .282 in his 1975 rookie season for the Minnesota Twins. Over the next two seasons he would be one of the best hitters in the American League, batting .323 in 1976 and .336 in 1977 (he finished second in the batting race that year to teammate and future Hall of Famer Rod Carew). In November 1977 he went to the California Angels in the re-entry free agent draft. He was batting .296 when on September 23, 1978 he was shot and killed in Gary, Indiana while riding in the backseat of his uncle's car. The shooter was aiming for his estranged wife, who was sitting next to Bostock. That man, Leonard Smith, was found not guilty by reasons of insanity, and was released in 1980 from an Indiana Mental Hospital, because he was deemed to "no longer be insane".
