Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, Wessington with Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Burial followed at the Wessington Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elizabeth "Betty" was born March 9, 1917 in Corsica, South Dakota to Peter and Margjie (VerWolf) VanDenBerg. On January 21, 1939, she married Guy "Red" Marvel in Wessington. Throughout her life, she lived in Corsica, Huron, Wessington and St. Lawrence. Betty worked as a cook and interior decorator. In her spare time, she enjoyed hunting for Indian artifacts, crocheting, embroidering, sewing,
gardening, quilting, cooking and baking.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Senior Center in Wessington.
Survivors include her son, Don (Wendy) Marvel of Parker, Colorado and many nieces and nephews.
Proceeding her in death were her parents; husband; and daughter, Delores Marie Marvel.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Betty's arrangements.
