Merle O Bowles was born in Ames, OK, on 8-7-03, the first child of Alvin R. and Alice P. Roylance Bowles. His younger sisters were Ruth Alta and also Wanda E who died in infancy. He married Gladys Marie York (1901-1979) in August of 1921. Merle and Gladys moved to South Gate, California and started their family. They had two sons who died close together at very young ages. They were Merle O. Jr. (1924-1945) amd Donald Dean (1933-1944). Junior was a Flight Pilot killed in WWII and Donnie died of Cancer. When Gladys died in 1979, they were living in Corsicana, Texas. Merle took Gladys home to be buried in Ames where their youingest son was buried. Junior's grave is in CA near his maternal grandparents. After Gladys death, Merle decided to stay in Ames Where he met Lucy Pearl Britton Bowman (1896-1985) who was a widow. Pearl had been Merle's piano teacher when he was a child in Ames. Merle and Pearl married on December 23, 1980 in Fairview, OK. Merle was 77 and Pearl was 84. After Pearl passed in 1985, Merle remained in Ames until his death on 2-19-88.
