Edward 's father was a brick and stone mason and Edward learned the trade from him. He became a "master" as a mason. Edward and Sarah were baptized in 1848 . Some of the missionaries stayed at their home and Sarah washed and ironed for them. In 1868 Edward and his family sailed for America with some of the missionaries on the ship "Constitution." In need of money, Edward and his older daughters found work but soon left to go west. They stayed for a short time in Salt Lake but soon decided to move to Minersville, Utah , where the rest of their children were born. In about 1883 Edward left home and family to go to Arizona and New Mexico for about 12 years. He left his wife Sarah to provide food and clothing for their family.
