Gregory Scott Piasecki passed away on April 6, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 42. He was born on Feb. 4, 1968 in Hammond, Indiana.
Greg grew up in Rochester, MI. A graduate of Oakland University, he worked at the Palace of Auburn Hills for over 19 years, and also the Meadow Brook Theatre as a Production Manager and carpenter.
Greg was the President of Oakland County NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). Greg established the chapter and was able to successfully run one of the most active NORML chapters in the State of Michigan. He was the 2009 Michigan NORML Director of the Year.
Greg always had a kind word to say and very rarely met anyone that he did not like. He found pleasure from helping others, and even during his illness, remained upbeat. He always exhibited a quiet decency and had a smile for strangers and friends alike. His kind spirit will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife Mary Pat Clark; parents Bernard and JoAnne Piasecki of Holly; brothers, Bryan (Allison) Piasecki; Jeff (Hollie Bracken) Piasecki; nephew Jonathan; and nieces Hannah and Maezhen; good friend Lynn Granville.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 26 at Meadow Brook Theatre, 207 Wilson Hall, Oakland University, Rochester.

We were due to be married on May 22nd, 2009. We have been together for along time so to us it's just a little paperwork.
On May 12th Greg was meeting a couple friends in Royal Oak.
~This is Greg's account of what happened: (from an email he sent soon after he was hospitalized)
I was primed and ready to be with Tim an Marvin at the Royal Oak Planning commission. The three of us met at Tom's Oyster Bar to enjoy a good meal and go over thoughts but I spoiled things by having a seizure and passing out on the floor. I guess at first they thought it was a comedy act but later realized I wasn't that funny and it was real. So long story short I seem to have a brain tumor about the size of a golf ball deep in the right side of my brain (I've borrowed the name Urgo for it form a SG-1 episode).
Believe it or not, this is a good thing. I wasn't driving my car when I happened and didn't kill/ injure anyone else AND I found out now about the tumor before it got to the point where it maybe couldn't be operated on. Really there is no good time for this to happen but at least it allows for the best possible outcome. I am actually happy to know now as opposed to later. Please don't be bummed out."~
Greg had a partial resection, they were not able to get all the tumor. On June 2nd began Chemotherapy and Radiation. Greg has been diagnosed with Stage IV brain cancer (there are 4 stages of cancer, Stage IV is terminal). The cancer is called Glioblastoma. It is a very fast growing aggressive cancer. The statistics for survival are not in the patients favor. While we are going the traditional route we are also going the non-traditional as well.
On July 30th Greg suffered a grand maul seizure which eventually lead to another stay at Beaumont for 8 days. During that time he was diagnosed with having shingles, Greg has endured allot of pain but of course has been a total good sport about it. It affects him every waking and sleeping hour. The doctors say it can take up to a year if not longer to heal. He has also had additional seizures and hospital stays. He now has blood clots from his ankles to knees and in his lungs.
On November 28th Hospice of Michigan became involved with Greg's care. We have nothing but wonderful things to say about hospice.
On December 12th Greg and I were married. A bit later than originally planned but we did it!

Greg passed away at 5:40PM. He was as comfortable as could be expected. It was peaceful and the way Greg would have wanted it. After Greg passed he looked very peaceful and as if he was just sleeping and pain free.
All of this journey started when Greg was at dinner with Tim and Marvin from MI Normal and ended with Neil from Oakland County NORML. An appropriate full circle.
Thank you to Neil Yashinksy who was there with me when Greg passed. Bryan and Allison, my mother (and Sam) stayed with us until Greg was picked by the mortuary. Greg will be taken to Toledo and then cremated. Some of his ashes will be scattered out west and some of the places that Greg and I traveled.
Information on his memorial will follow in the next couple of days.
