Colonel Harris Served his country in the War of 1812 at the Battle of Baltimore as commander of the 1st Regiment of Artillery , which consisted of the following groups:

United Maryland Artillery
1st Baltimore Hose Artillery
Washington Artillery
Eagle Artillerists
Baltimore Independent Artillery
First Marine Artillery of the Union (Independent of, but attached to the regiment)
