She was born in Winston Salem, N.C. to Elser and Blanche Weisner. In 1934, she married her beloved husband of 56 years, Joseph K. Martin. Kathleen, a 55-year resident of Fort Walton Beach, was active in many community, educational, and charitable organizations – frequently holding positions of leadership. After raising her children, she enjoyed a career with the Okaloosa County School Board. For over half a century, she and her husband were devoted to the First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach and their church family.
It has been said that "Miss Kathleen" was the epitome of a genteel southern lady. Steel magnolia is also an apt description. She was strong, self-sufficient, and opinionated, and family and friends knew to never, ever ask her age! May she serve as an example of how to live a long and gracious life.
She was pre-deceased by her husband; and her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Woodrow Tuttle. She is survived by a daughter, Jo Kathleen Hutchins; a son, Joseph Kirk Martin Jr. (Vicki); grandchildren, Debra Fisher, Shirley Chapin, Joel Hutchins, Joseph K. Martin, III (Erin), and Bradley J. Martin (Mary); great-grandchildren, James Martin and Mary Martin; cousins, Peggy Cloninger and Harding Tuttle (Doris); grand nieces and nephews; and her very dear friend, Alice Cunningham.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Hilton Weiner, Karen Hughes, and her Westwood staff for the devotion and kind care given to Kathleen.
Services will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach with Rev. Dave Barkalow officiating.
