GI Who Falsified Age Killed in Action
Killed in Action: Army Pfc. Jay T. Ballenger, 12141 Veirs Mill Rd, Silver Spring, MD

A 17-year-old Silver Spring, Md., youth, who falsified his age to enlist in the Army, was killed in action March 7.
Pfc. Jay T Ballenger, enlisted two days after his seventeenth birthday last April 28 without his parents' knowledge, according to Mr. and Mrs. Blair Ballenger of Silver Spring, Md.
After 17 weeks of basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., Pfc. Ballenger was shipped overseas from Seattle after spending seven days at home.
Pfc. Ballenger was born in Washington (DC), later moved to Wheaton, Md., and subsequently to the Silver Spring address. He attended Rockville Elementary and Junior High Schools.
Brother Wounded
Another Brother, Robert, 20, also in Korea, was wounded in the face July 20.
Besides his parents and brother, the Fifth Infantry Division soldier is survived by two married sisters, Mrs. Virgina Glass of Suitland, Md., Mrs. June Hutchins of the Veirs Mill Rd address, and a younger sister, Rosemarie, of that address. A brother, Blair, Jr., 26, is a World War II veteran of 23...(article missing)
