Clora Alice Stone Akers, 97, of 108 Justice Drive, Bassett, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at the Stanleytown Health Care Center.
She was born on April 3, 1905, in the Henry section of Franklin County, the last of 10 children born to Mary Elizabeth Cahill Stone and Rufus Franklin Stone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Russell Akers, in 1979; her parents; and a daughter, Colleen A. Stone.
She had been a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church since 1954.
Surviving are three daughters, Eva A. Prillaman of Bassett, Christine A. Cahill of Collinsville, and Judy A. Meece of Bassett; five sons, Robert Franklin Akers of Monroe, N.C., Fred Leon Akers Sr. of Figsboro, and Russell Buren Akers, David Ronald Akers and Dennis Elmer Akers, all of Roanoke; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Primitive Baptist Church, with Elders Leonard Brammer and Clarence Stone officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Services in Bassett today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
