William Franklin Leger (spelled Legeer on his military headstone) moved from Claiborne County, Tennessee with his wife and several children prior to the U.S. Civil War. More children were born after this relocation.

He fought in the U.S. Civil War as did his eldest sons, Franklin, Robert, and Peter Leger. All four survived the war except for the oldest son, Franklin.

While he is registered here as being buried with the first wife and one adult child of his son, Peter, his actual grave site is on the private property in Jackson County that once belonged to William Franklin Leger's son, Christopher, on Rocky Branch Road, off of Ledger Fork Road, in close proximity to the border with Clay County.

William Franklin's wives were

Vina Hurley, Rhoda King, and Naomi Honeycutt Rich ( Rich Honeycutt?). The grave stone of his son, Christopher, lists Christopher's parents as Wm and Nancy King Leger.

There is some speculation as to the accuracy of the date of death on his gravestone. Research using census records and family history records would indicate that William Franklin Leger actually died about 1907.

William Franklin is not linked to all of his children here yet. When we find, or make, memorials for the rest, they'll also be linked here.

William Leger- Military grave marker reads Wm. Legeer Co. F. 8 Ky. Inf. Mar. 28, 1812 Nov. 18, 1914--Note: His marker has been changed, I have picture and you can see that the death date has been changed. His death date is Nov. 15, 1907. William was the step father to my Great grand paw John "Flem" King.
