Sarah Buckingham was the youngest child of Isaac & Sarah (Jones) Buckingham.

Sarah had 8 siblings, Morgan, Jane (Boys), Ruth (Remley), Eleanor (Hammers), Mary (Garrison), Hannah (Forbes), Enoch and William.

In 1832 the Buckingham family left the hills of Greene County, Pennsylvania for Woodford County, Illinois. The opportunity to acquire good government land for settling on is what brought the family.

On 8 Apr 1841 Sarah married Peter Forbes. His family came to Marshall County in 1831 from Currituck County, North Carolina.

Peter and Mary had 10 children,
1, Mary E. 1842-1881 IL, marr. Jas. Kennedy, 9 children
2. William, 1843-1932 KS, marr. Laura Mayes, 3 children
3. Ruth A. 1845-1923 IL, marr. Irving Broaddus, 5 children
4. Infant dau. 1846
5. Isaac M. 1847-1927 IL, marr. Frances Thorp, 1 child
6. Caleb, 1849-1899 IL, marr. Nellie Green, 3 children
7. James C. 1852-1852 IL
8. Sarah E. 1853-1940 KS, marr. Samuel Croft, 8 children
9. Infant Son 1858
10. Jane 1860-1861

Sarah and her young family were doing well when suddenly Peter died. He was only 41. However, his hard work and good fortune left Sarah and her children well provided for.

Regretfully, Sarah did not have a long life either and when she was 50 she joined Peter.

These early deaths are surprising as Mary & Peter's parents lived into their mid 70s and 80s.
