The daughter of George W. and Rebecca Dorsey Foos, in Marion County Ohio.

Emily married John Wesley Burtsfield in 1891. She spent her life raising their children Rebecca and Charles, and helping her husband with their farm in Marion County.

Emily and John also provided for her widowed mother, sister Mary and brother Emerson. When Emily died, that torch for Mary was passed to her daughter.

She died of complications from heart issues in 1917.

Emily Foos Burtsfield was a descendent of Valentine Foos, one of the assistants to Lucas Sullivant when Sullivant founded Franklinton, Ohio (now Columbus, Ohio). Through her mother's Dorsey line, Emily was a fourth cousin to Bessie Wallis Warfield, aka, "Duchess of Windsor."
