BALTIMORE CITY POLICE OFFICER
SHOT AND KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

On Oct. 15, 1964 several citizens were fired upon in the 3300 block of Garrison Blvd. by suspects in a moving vehicle. Off. Bafford was able to get a good description from the victims and he was relaying that information to police headquarters from a callbox at the corner of Garrison Blvd & Liberty heights Avenue. Off. Bafford was working on what was supposed to be his day off because he and his wife were preparing for the birth of their child. Suddenly he yelled into the callbox phone that he had the suspects in sight and was going after them. He ran towards the car as backup officers were being sent to assist him. Suddenly three shots rang out and Off. Teddy Bafford fell into the roadway dead. Responding backup officers subdued and arrested the suspect. Off. Bafford had 17 years of service with the police department. He is survived by his expectant wife and 2 other children.
