BALTIMORE CITY POLICE OFFICER
SHOT & KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY
In the early morning hours of July 2, 1962, Off. Kowalewski was handling a routine call on North Avenue when he heard gunshots. Off. Kowalewski ran toward the sound of those shots and encountered a man that had just robbed and shot a cab driver. Off. Kowalewski saw the handgun in the mans hand and was drawing his revolver when the suspect fired two shots into Off. Kowalewski's chest. Off. Kowalewski died shortly thereafter at Mercy Hospital with his wife Helen at his side. The suspect was apprehended. Off. Kowalewski is survived by his wife and four sons, Edward, Wayne, Joseph & Charles.
