BALTIMORE CITY POLICE OFFICER
SHOT AND KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

Off. Benedict and his partner were on routine patrol in the area where several taxicab robberies had occurred. They spotted a cab with a passenger at 33rd Street & Loch Raven Blvd. and stopped the cab to see if everything was ok. As soon as Off. Benedict approached the cab the passenger swung open his door and shot Off. Benedict in the chest. The suspect escaped in a hail of gunfire from Off. Benedict's partner. He was apprehended a week later in the 100 block of S. Washington Street. Off. Benedict was survived by his expectant wife Lillian and 3 sons.
