Folk Figure. He was the son of Elijah and Lucy Harmon Bliss. Born in 1865 and weighing in at 12 pounds at his time of birth. Young Leonard did not show his unusual physical growth until age 11, when he was 6 feet tall and weighed in at 190 pounds. At 17, he had reached the weight of 280 and kept getting bigger. His top weight being 565. In the 1890 craze of the bicycle Leonard decided to capitalize on his size by getting paid by a bicycle manufacturer to exhibit the sturdiness of the bicycle by riding it. Leonard also went on the road as a member of the "Fat Men's Baseball" and gave exhibition in many places. His father died in 1900 and his mother out lived him and died at the age of 83. Leonard "Baby" Bliss died in his house in January of 1912, his neighbors found him frozen to death. It is stated he had been dead for several days when he was found.
