Simon Evonen was born Simon Eva in Sakkola in Finland's former Viipuri province. On December 23, 1860, he married Judit Lamberg in Sortavala, Finland. The couple had seven children before their emigration in the early 1890s. Upon settling in the Copper Country, Simon became a homesteader.
He died at the Houghton County Poor Farm in 1912 after suffering from jaw cancer. His wife, Judit, preceded him in death, as did sons Abraham and Matti and daughter Maria. Surviving were son Daniel and daughters Agneta and Marija.∼Age: 88 yrs.
