Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Marshall McCullough officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thompsonville. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at the funeral home.
He was born June 2, 1942, in Cairo to the the late Reuben and Mildred Barter. He married the former Diane Kimmel.
He was a retired coal miner for Amax Coal Company and a member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, Thompsonville.
He is survived by two sons, Chris Barter and Jeremy Barter, both of Harrisburg; two stepsons, Damon Lampley of Des Moines, Iowa, and Doug Lampley of Cambria; a daughter, Jennifer Ramsey of Crystal Lake; three grandchildren, Michaela Barter of Harrisburg and Brenden and Nathan Ramsey, both of Crystal Lake, Iowa; and two stepgrandchildren, Darren and Brandon Lampley.
