John Stempel (b. 1903, d. 1982) was the chairman of the Indiana University Department of Journalism for 30 years.
He is a 1985 inductee to the Monroe County Hall of Fame on which his plaque reads "Honors (Post-1946) Chairman of the IU Department of Journalism for 30 years and a community leader active in the Rotary, Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce, Community Chest. He worked for newspapers in Bloomington and across the country, including the New York Sun."
