Robert and his first wife Serena Sparrow immigrated from England ca. 1849. They lived first in Boston, then in upstate New York before settling in Chicago where Serena died after the birth of their 6th and last child, Frankie in January of 1863. Frankie was adopted by the Scow family but sadly died four months later in April of 1863.

Robert remarried after Serena died. While in Chicago and Robert at work, the stepmother left daughter Clara alone. The neighbors heard her crying and sent her to Fairfield MI to her uncle George Sparrow to live and later she lived with her sister Annie. She was sent via parcel post, wearing a Label and delivered by horse and buggy to the door by the postman.

Robert later came to Fairfield (I don't know what happened to his second wife, or even what her name was); one night after a night of merriment in Adrian with two German friends, he fell out of the wagon and was killed. Robert is buried in Fairfield cem
