John was the son of Matthew Comley and Jane "Jannie" Lambert. On 16 Jun 1909 he married Lillie Krause and they had one daughter, Genevive. Lillie died in 1943 and at a later date he married Dororthy Schoen. At various times John was employed as a machine hand for a glassworks, automobile repairman, and a mechanic in a garage. He also operated Comleys Antiques in Louisville until he retired a year before he died. John died of cancer of the colon, prostate and lung at his home, 212 Oxford Place, at the age of 74.
