John was the son of Andrew Gardner and Elizabeth Taphorn. About 1948 he married Iva M. Anderson and they had seven children: Constance "Connie", Pamela, Kathryn "Kathy", Gwen, Michelle, John and Andrea. John was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired instrument mechanic for Ashland Oil. He died at the age of 76.
