John was the eldest of four children born to Albert Nicholas and Margaret Neihoff Arts. On 08 Jun 1935 he married Eleanor Vaughan Carter. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. For 24 years he was employed by the Paducah Fire Department and he also worked part-time for Carter Auto Parts. John died of a myocardial infarction at his home, 810 N. 25th Street, at the age of 52.
