John was the second of eight children born to John Peter Buchheit and Elizabeth Von Bokern. On 26 Jun 1907 John wed Mary Anna Goetz and they had three children, Thelma, John, and Marita. John worked as a machinist for the L&N Railroad. He died of 2nd and 3rd degree burns over most of his body as a result of a gasoline explosion.
