Son of Charles Henry and Jane Cain, of Retreat Cottage, Egloshayle, Cornwall.
He served in the South African War.
H.M.S. "Magic".
Magic was an "M" class Destroyer, built in 1915. Part of the 11th Fleet, it was present at the Battle of Jutland.
On 10th April 1918, she hit a mine, laid by UC.31, when 1.5 miles ENE of Fanad Head, Co. Donegal. There was an internal explosion, but the ship did not sink, and was later towed into Lough Swilly.
The normal crew complement was 80, of whom there were 25 fatal casualties.
