H.M.S. "Racoon".
HMS Racoon was a "Beagle" Class Destroyer, built and completed in 1910 by Cammell, Laird & Co. Birkenhead, which ran aground and was wrecked off Fanad Head, on the north coast of Donegal on 9 January 1918, during a snowstorm, with the loss of all 91 on board.
The bodies of 20 sailors were recovered and buried in Co. Donegal, 2 of which were unidentified.
16 are buried here in Rathmullan, 1 of which was unidentified.
Approx. 15 bodies were recovered along the coasts of Northern Ireland, and Scotland.
The remainder of the bodies were not recovered. These men are commemorated on
