On October 27th 1914 HMS Audacious was struck by a German mine near Tory Island of the north coast of Ireland. HMS Liverpool went to assist and Petty Officer BURGESS was standing on the deck of Liverpool when Audacious exploded. He was struck by a piece of armoured plating from the Audacious and was killed outright.
He was the son of Lawson BURGESS and Matilda BURGESS of 12, Gainsborough Road, Plaistow, Essex, England.
He died aged 30 years.
