U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Central Indiana Normal College, in 1878, agricultural pursuits and taught school in Montgomery County, Indiana, (1879-82). After studying law, he was admitted to the bar in 1883 and commenced to practice law in Crawfordsville, Indiana. In 1889, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-first, Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses, serving until 1895. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., (1894-1925). He then retired from active law practice and relocated to Seattle, Washington, until his death at age 79.
