Rev. M.B. Edmondson passed away Sunday at his home on Courtney Ridge, Wirt County, at the advanced age of eighty-seven. The deceased was a native of Virginia, but had lived in the Little Kanawha valley much of his youth. He had been in the Baptist ministery for sixty-five years and was the oldest pastor of that denomination in active service in the state. Until his death, despite ill health, he continued in active charge of the Buffalo Church. M.B. Edmondson was born in Washington County, Virginia, November 26, 1821. He took up residence in Wirt County in 1860. He settled in Reedy District and engaged in farming and preaching. He had served as a county superintendent of schools for several years. He was married three times. His first wife was Almedia Parsons of Kanawha County, who died there Sep. 3, 1857. She was the mother of his six eldest children: James, Matilda Jane, Margaret, Samuel, William and Evaline. On May 15, 1860, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth J. Woodyard and their children were: Catherine (Kit), Elmer Dickinson (Dick) and Fanny Wirt, who died when she was three. In 1872, Margaret E. Ott, daughter of Joseph and Susan Ott, became the wife of M.B. Edmondson and their children were: Joseph O.S., born December 19, 1872, Susan A., born 1875, Mary Lee Anna, born April 8, 1878, and Robert Wirt, born Aug. 27, 1883.
